What is Polar Plunge?

The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics is an exhilarating fundraising event where participants, often individuals, organizations, or businesses, take a daring plunge into icy waters. This initiative is designed to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics programs. Participants, commonly referred to as “Plungers,” seek sponsorship for their chilly challenge, with the funds collected contributing to Special Olympics initiatives, including year-round training and events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The Polar Plunge is not only a thrilling experience but also a powerful way to support and make a positive impact on the lives of Special Olympics athletes.

How old do you have to be to plunge?

There is no age requirement to participate in the Polar Plunge. For individuals under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the event participant waiver. Waivers are included in online registration and available in person the day of the plunge.

What should I bring to the Plunge?

  • Towel: A must for drying off and warming up!
  • Old or waterproof shoes: All Plungers are required to wear shoes at all times.
  • Plastic bag: Ideal for transporting your wet clothes.
  • Dry change of clothes: Don’t forget to pack a fresh set, including a dry pair of underwear!
  • Another Plunger: Recruit a friend, family member, coworker—anyone you’d like—to take the Plunge with you!
