There are governments around the world that view music with tremendous suspicion and do whatever they can to keep things under control. Chechnya, a Russian republic, is one of those places.
In 2016, it formed what can be best described as the “drunk wedding dancer police.” There’s a squad that goes around to wedding celebrations to make sure that there’s no “embarrassing” or “revolting” dancing, including anything that involves “non-traditional dance moves.”
The rules also forbid the firing of weapons during the reception and under no circumstances should the bride be allowed to dance. More rules were added in 2024, decreeing that there can be no music performed at less than 80 beats per minute or faster than 116 BPM.
Sounds like a fun place.
