Leonard Cohen's posthumous collection of poems and lyrics features "Kanye West Is Not Picasso"

Leonard Cohen’s collection of poems and lyrics called The Flame was released last week. The book was written by Cohen before his death in 2016 and features the poem, “Kanye West Is Not Picasso.”

Kanye West is not Picasso
I am Picasso
Kanye West is not Edison
I am Edison
I am Tesla
Jay-Z is not the Dylan of Anything
I am the Dylan of anything
I am the Kanye West of Kanye West
The Kanye West
Of the great bogus shift of bullshit culture
From one boutique to another
I am Tesla
I am his coil
The coil that made electricity soft as a bed
I am the Kanye West Kanye West thinks he is
When he shoves your ass off the stage
I am the real Kanye West
I don’t get around much anymore
I never have
I only come alive after a war
And we have not had it yet

The poem comes from May 15th, 2015 and it is believed Cohen wrote in response to comments West made at Oxford University where he compared himself to Pablo Picasso.

The poem feels especially delicious today as Kanye West is all over the news after his lunch date with US president, Donald Trump.

And colour me new, but I re-watched Take This Waltz again the other day…and how about Feist’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Closing Time.”
