Metallica is currently touring in Europe and were in Manchester a couple days ago. The band decided to pay homage to the English industrial city by playing a song by classic alternative band The Stone Roses.
The jammed the 1989 song “I Wanna Be Adored” during the heavy rains to a packed stadium. James Hetfield said of the downpour, “It feels good, actually. It’s just water, you know. A good thing. No electrocutions. We’re all good up here.”
Then asked, what song are we playing next? Then he introduced Rob Trujillo as the longest serving Metallica bass player and Kirk Hammett.
Trujillo said, “we’re playing local music tonight to celebrate the spirit of this city! The only rule is, you gotta sing, because I can’t!” Then let out a sinister laugh as he smashed on his bass and was joined by Kirk Hammett on guitar.
